They are using the word “could” a lot in the first few sentences. What if “will” were used? What this means, is that we do not have much time to prepare for these shocks. Grow some food, it’s still spring, you can still plant some seeds! I recommend perennial greens and vegetables. They aren’t too common in our current annual agriculture, but perhaps some annuals can be perennialized through breeding experiments (for earth’s offspring). This is a major aspect of permaculture. Rising oil prices mean rising everything prices – including rising food prices. It’s the peak of the rollercoaster! Now the fun begins! (If you like rollercoasters.)
