US military warns oil output may dip causing [serious] shortages by 2015

The US military has warned that surplus oil production capacity could disappear within two years and there could be serious shortages by 2015 with a significant economic and political impact.

The energy crisis outlined in a Joint Operating Environment report from the US Joint Forces Command, comes as the price of petrol in Britain reaches record levels and the cost of crude is predicted to soon top $100 a barrel.

…The warning is the latest in a series from around the world that has turned peak oil – the moment when demand exceeds supply – from a distant threat to a more immediate risk.

They are using the word “could” a lot in the first few sentences.  What if “will” were used?  What this means, is that we do not have much time to prepare for these shocks.  Grow some food, it’s still spring, you can still plant some seeds!  I recommend perennial greens and vegetables.  They aren’t too common in our current annual agriculture, but perhaps some annuals can be perennialized through breeding experiments (for earth’s offspring).  This is a major aspect of permaculture.  Rising oil prices mean rising everything prices – including rising food prices.  It’s the peak of the rollercoaster!  Now the fun begins!  (If you like rollercoasters.)
